What is a Content Management System (CMS)?
The simplest way to describe a Content Management System or CMS as we will call it from now on; is simply a piece of software on your website that allows anyone, regardless of their web skills, to edit, add to and manage the content of your website.
Searching on Google for CMS will give you thousands of technical sites telling you how complicated the whole process is. This could not be further from the truth. What these articles fail to mention is that while there are literally thousands of 'pre-built' CMS applications available on the net, nothing will work as well and effectively for your business than one that has been designed to your exact needs.
Why would I need a CMS?
All good websites are dynamic, changing constantly as your business and what it offers changes. Content Management Systems allow your own staff to log in and make those changes, adding products, updating news items, and any other adjustments that need to be done from day to day. Having an up-to-the-minute website is essential to drawing and retaining customers.
With a CMS system you no longer have to email the developer to make changes, wait for him to send back a proof then upload the new pages. This is ineffective and expensive. With a CMS system, your staff can log in and make the changes in seconds, all without having to have any programming or html skills.
